Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 will host the Amarillo Dusters this weekend with first place in Mid West Division of the National Conference on the line. The two teams met in Amarillo during week two, with the Xplorers winning 66-41.

Memphis currently has a half game lead atop the Mid West Division with a record of 5-1. The Dusters are right behind the Xplorers with a 4-1 record. Each team's loss was against a division opponent.

The Xplorers are coming off a 43-38 win last Saturday over the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Kevin Prentiss leads the Xplorers in scoring with a total of 126 points, and is second overall in the af2. Memphis quarterback Brian Jones has three times been the Offensive MVP of the Game, including last weekend when he threw for 339 yards and four touchdowns.

Defense has been the key to the success the Xplorers have had this season. Defensive lineman Khreem Smith leads the af2 with an Xplorers franchise record of 10 sacks. The interceptions of defensive specialists Scott Cunningham and Dahnel Singfield have been a critical part of why Memphis has the best pass defense in the league.

When Amarillo and Memphis played back in the second week of the season, Kevin Prentiss scored an af2 record tying eight touchdowns. Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto talked about the game plan for his team as they take on Amarillo for the second time. "It is always interesting the second time you face a team. We definitely showed Amarillo a part of our offense that has been very successful for us. Preparations are always different for a second game, yet very similar at the same time."

Coach Barto also discussed the success that Amarillo has had since the loss to Memphis. "This is our toughest game of the season thus far," said Barto. "This is a good Amarillo team, who has been playing extremely well since we beat them. We expect them to come out with a lot of intensity and give us a real battle."

Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm Saturday at the DeSoto Civic Center. Single game tickets start as low as $7, and can be purchased by calling 662-280-9120, visiting the DeSoto Civic Center box office, or by logging onto Ticketmaster today.
