
Pioneers Face Rematch with Steamwheelers

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are set to square off against the Quad City Steamwheelers Saturday, May 14th at 8:30 pm EST. The game will be played at The MARK of the Quad Cities in Moline, IA.
The teams met in week two of the 2005 season in Wilkes-Barre. The Pioneers defeated the Steamwheelers 64-28 in front of their home crowd. Wilkes-Barre handed Quad City their worst loss in franchise history. The Pioneers lead the overall series against the Steamwheelers 4 games to 1. This week will be Quad City's opportunity to even the score this season by attempting to beat the Pioneers at Quad City.
Both Wilkes-Barre and Quad City lost their last contests. The Pioneers played against the Green Bay Blizzard in week 5 and lost at home, 48-40. The team had a bye for week 6 and will be on the road for their first game back in action. The Steamwheelers lost in week 6 to the Amarillo Dusters 58-48 at Amarillo. The Pioneers and Steamwheelers will both be looking for a win this week.
Despite the Pioneers' two consecutive losses, they are still ranked 1st in Field Goal Percentage and tied for 1st for Sacks Against; 3rd in Total Defense, Pass Offense and Rushing Defense. Quarterback Kyle Rowley is 3rd in Total Offensive Touchdowns and 4th in Passing Yards per Game. Offensive Specialist JR Thomas is 3rd for All Purpose Yards and Defensive Specialists Jamie Hattley and Ronnie Kaymore are 4th and 7th for Tackles, respectively.
This will be the start of a long series of road trips for the Pioneers. They will be playing 5 of the next 7 games on the road before their second bye week July 2nd. All of the Pioneers' road games can be heard on WILK 980 AM.
The Pioneers will be returning home against the Manchester Wolves on May 27th at 7:30 pm in the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Single game and group tickets are now on sale.
