Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2, coming off a hard-fought loss this past weekend, will open their 2004 home schedule this Saturday at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The Xplorers, who fell 44-27 to the Birmingham Steeldogs last week, will play the first of their eight home games this weekend against the Florida Firecats.

It's sure to be a party at the DeSoto Civic Center, as the Xplorers have planned numerous entertaining events around and during the game. The contest will start off with a bit of rock and roll, as Saliva lead singer Josey Scott will sing the National Anthem. Pre-game will also include a pyrotechnics show.

The first 1500 fans through the gates will receive a free 2004 Memphis Xplorers Magnetic Schedule, sponsored by SportsPlus 790 WMC and Time Warner Cable.

This Saturday's game will also feature the unveiling of Team Xplosion, the 2004 Xplorers dance team. Team Xplosion will perform at halftime and throughout the evening.

As with every af2 game, players will be available on the field after the game for a post-game autograph session with fans.

Fans are also invited to join the team for a post-game party at Palermo's Pizza, located at the corner of Goodman Road and Stonegate Boulevard in Southaven.

The Xplorers made two roster moves this week in preparation for their game against the high-scoring Firecats. Memphis was assigned QB Jake Knott, who will serve as the backup to starter Brian Jones. The league also assigned WR/DB Robert Kilow to the Xplorers. Kilow, who played collegiately at Arkansas State, spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to last season. Kilow spent last year with the Chicago Rush of the AFL.

All Xplorers practices and scrimmages are open to both the public and the media. The team's practices will occur at the DeSoto Civic Center at approximately 7:30 every evening, except for travel and game days. For more information, contact media relations director Galen Clavio at 662-342-1755.

All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC. In addition, all games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio.

For more information, contact the Xplorers office at 662-342-1755.
