Memphis Xplorers News Release
Maddox Football and Maddox Hockey, the owners of the Memphis Xplorers of the af2 and the Memphis RiverKings of Central Hockey League, announced today that Trey Medlock has been hired as the new general manager for both teams. Medlock was previously the president and general manager for the Rio Grande Valley Dorados of the af2 and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League.
A native of Shallowater, Texas, Medlock is in his fourth season of professional sports. Last season, Medlock guided the organizations to several accolades, including the af2's "Executive of the Year" award and the CHL's "Franchise of the Year" honor.
Medlock graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in exercise sports and science and then went on to a college coaching career. He served as an assistant basketball coach at Stephen F. Austin University, Tulane University, and at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Medlock moved back to Texas in 1999, settling in Lubbock and joined the staff of the start-up Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Western Professional Hockey League (now a member of the CHL). He was the director of corporate marketing for two seasons with the Cotton Kings before moving to the expansion Rio Grande Valley teams. Medlock worked with Hunt Development and eventually left after obtaining the rights to place professional hockey in the Valley.
"I am very excited to be joining the RiverKings and Xplorers," Medlock said. "This is a different opportunity with a lot of challenges." Medlock said that a number of factors weighed into his decision to make the move to the Mid-South.
"The teams have great ownership and a great core of fans," Medlock said. "It's the largest market in the Central Hockey League and the af2 and there are tremendous opportunities in that market. The RiverKings are a storied franchise steeped in history and tradition as they prepare to start their 14th year with back-to-back titles just a couple of years ago. And Danton (Barto) does a tremendous job with the Xplorers who made the playoffs last season and are in excellent position to make a run for a title this year."
"In his two-plus seasons as General Manager of the Killer Bees, Trey has quickly established himself as a respected leader among Central Hockey League management staff," CHL President Brad Treliving said. "We wish him continued success in his new role with the Memphis RiverKings."
Medlock said that he is anxious to bring his family and jump into community work. "The thing that has always impressed me about the RiverKings and the Xplorers is their tremendous commitment to the community. My family and I are looking forward to becoming a large part of that."
The Xplorers will host the Amarillo Dusters this Saturday at the DeSoto Civic Center in a battle for first place in the Mid West Division of the National Conference. Single game tickets start as low as $7, and can be purchased by calling 662-280-9120, visiting the DCC box office, or by logging onto Ticketmaster today. Memphis Xplorers Arena Football!
