TULSA TALONS (3-2) AT BAKERSFIELD BLITZ (2-3)

FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2005 - RABOBANK ARENA (9,000) 10:00 P.M. ET

It is a West Division showdown as the Tulsa Talons meet the Bakersfield Blitz. Tulsa suffered a setback last week as they lost at home to Central Valley 64-63. The loss put the Talons into second place while vaulting Central Valley into first. If the Talons are going to get back on track they will need to depend on the arm of rookie quarterback JOSH BLNANKENSHIP. The rookie from Eastern Washington ranks third in passing rating (127.1) and second in yards per attempt (8.5). His main target is DONOVAN MORGAN. Morgan is tied for second in receptions (40), second in receiving yards (607), and first in receiving yards per game (121.4) and reviving touchdowns (22). Bakersfield is coming off a big 75-40 win over Bossier-Shreveport. The Blitz defense is led by KHAREE SHORTER. Through five games Shorter has 37.5 tackles (33UA 9A), third in the league. He and JABARI JACKSON have forced two fumbles. The Blitz are making a transition to rookie quarterback, former three-year starter at UNLV, JASON THOMAS. Last week Thomas was almost perfect, completing 18 of 21 passes for 247 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions. He even rushed for one score. Now Thomas will have to face the Talons defense. Tulsa's red zone defense is ranked second in the league. They have allowed just 12 touchdowns in 19 opponent trips. Of the seven stops, four have come through forcing a turnover on downs. Thomas will want to look to the endzone when the Blitz are around midfield. The Blitz and Talons will meet again in two weeks.
