Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 announced today that offensive standout Kevin Prentiss has been assigned to the team by the league.
Prentice, who was a key player for the Xplorers last season, returns to anchor the Memphis receiving corps for the 2004 campaign. Head Coach Danton Barto feels the addition of Prentiss will make the Xplorers offensive attack among the best in the league.
"Kevin is a dynamic player," said Barto. "He might be the best player in all of af2. Having him on our roster will make our entire offense more effective."
Despite playing in only eight games last year for the Xplorers, Prentiss left his mark offensively, scoring 20 touchdowns and 120 total points. That total was good for second-most on the entire Xplorers roster.
Prentiss's effectiveness in the passing game is evident by his receiving yardage. The former Mississippi State standout averaged 102.5 yards per game receiving, by far the best on the Xplorers 2003 roster. His 16.7 yards per catch was also best on the team.
Prentiss also showed his value to the Xplorers special teams unit last season, returning a missed field goal for a touchdown and a kickoff for a touchdown.
Barto says that Prentiss's versatility make him a dangerous weapon.
"Kevin's explosiveness, both as a receiver and as a return man, make him hard to defend," said Barto. "I'm looking forward to hopefully having him for a full year, to see what he can do."
The Xplorers Coach's Show is tentatively scheduled to air on Monday nights at 6:30 PM on 790 AM. Barto hopes that fans will find the show both entertaining and informative.
Prentiss and the rest of the Xplorers will kick off the 2004 season on April 10th at 7:00 pm, as Memphis travels to Alabama to take on the Birmingham Steeldogs.
The home opener for the Xplorers will take place on April 17th at 7:00 pm, as Memphis hosts the Florida Firecats at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS.
All 16 regular season Xplorers games will be broadcast on SportsPlus 790 WMC in Memphis. Fans attending the home games can also tune in to the Xplorers In-House Radio Network, with the game being broadcast inside the DeSoto Civic Center on 107.9 FM.
Season ticket packages are now on sale for the 2004 af2 season. For more information, contact the Xplorers office at 662-342-1755.
