West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - When the West Michigan Whitecaps kick off their 21st season of baseball at home Tuesday night at the newly rebuilt Fifth Third Ballpark, WZZM 13 will be right by our side broadcasting the game. During the off-season the Whitecaps entered into a partnership with the local ABC affiliate for the game. The broadcast team of Dan Harland and Brent Ashcroft will take to the air at 6:30 p.m.
The game will be the public's first chance to see the newly rebuilt Fifth Third Ballpark since a fire on January 3 destroyed approximately 40 percent of the stadium.
"We are extremely pleased and proud with this relationship," explained Whitecaps CEO Lew Chamberlin. "This partnership is another example of the commitment WZZM has to West Michigan."
WZZM will have live interviews from Fifth Third Ballpark with Whitecaps staff during their morning news show and Take 5, which airs from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. They will also air their 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. newscasts live from Fifth Third Ballpark.
The Whitecaps started the 2014 season on the road in Dayton for the first four games and currently have a 2-2 record. The scheduled starter for the Whitecaps' home-opener is Jeff Thompson, the Detroit Tigers' third-round pick in the 2013 draft. Thompson spent part of last season in West Michigan, appearing in 14 games and going 2-2 with a 3.80 ERA.
