Frederick Keys News Release

Lynchburg, VA - Austin Wynns and T.J. Olesczuk blasted back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning and the Keys never looked back in a 5-2 win over Lynchburg on Sunday at Calvin Falwell Field. John Means won his third consecutive start, as he tossed six innings and allowed two runs.

The Keys took the lead in the fourth after falling behind early. Steve Wilkerson kicked off his three-hit day with a single, but Cam Kneeland bounced into a double play. Aderlin Rodriguez then singled, and on a 2-0 pitch from Luis Lugo, Wynns gathered his third homer of the season to left field for a tie game. Olesczuk followed on the next pitch to nearly the same spot to stake the Keys to a 3-2 lead. It was the first Advanced-A long fly for Olesczuk.

Lynchburg scored twice in the second against Means on four straight singles with two outs. With Daniel Salters and Taylor Murphy on the corners, Claudio Bautista brought in the former for a 1-0 advantage. Ivan Castillo ripped a ball to center to score Murphy, but Bautista was tagged out trying to advance to third to end the inning.

The Keys added insurance in the fifth. Erick Salcedo reached via an infield single with one out and got to second on a Josh Hart base knock. Wilkerson followed with a looping single to right for his second hit to score Salcedo. Lugo (1-1) lasted just one more batter, taking the loss. The lefty didn't allow a hit through the first three innings, but he ended up with 4.2 frames, allowed seven hits and four runs.

Means settled down after the second inning on his 23rd birthday. He would allow two more hits the rest of the way, a pair of singles to Salters and Bobby Bradley. Means is the second starter to last six innings this year, and the second to throw a quality start.

The Keys got another RBI from Olesczuk in the eighth to push it to a 5-2 advantage. The Hillcats made things interesting in the last two innings against Michael Zouzalik. In the eighth, they put two on base, but Zouzalik got a pop out to second by Mark Mathias. In the final frame, Murphy got to third and Bautista to first, but a 3-6-3 double play by Castillo snapped the Keys five-game losing streak and gave the team its first win against Lynchburg in eight tries.

After a league-wide off-day on Monday, the Keys return home for six-game homestand starting Tuesday against Salem. RHP Matthew Grimes (1-1, 1.29) will go for the Keys against LHP Jalen Beeks (2-0, 0.57). The broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at garnold@frederickkeys.com.
