Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Former Myrtle Beach Pelicans reliever Cody Ege was called up to the Major Leagues and made his debut for the Miami Marlins Saturday in San Francisco. Ege becomes the 138th Pelican to play in the Major Leagues, and the first to make his debut in 2016.

Ege worked one inning of relief for the Marlins in the team's 7-2 loss to the Giants.

The lefty was a 15th round pick out of Louisville in 2013 by Texas. The Iowa native pitched in the Rangers' farm system before being traded with Tomas Telis for Sam Dyson during last year's trade deadline.

Ege was originally assigned to the Pelicans on August 31, 2013. He pitched in three games at the end of the season, including an outing in the postseason.

He returned to the Grand Strand in 2014, striking out 76 batters in 62.2 innings while recording a 3.88 ERA.

The 2016 season is the 18th season for the Pelicans franchise and second as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2016, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
