Wuerffel, Shackelford to Throw out First Pitches

PENSACOLA, Fla., - 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel will be joined by 2014 Wuerffel Trophy winner Deterrian Shackelford at the July 1 Pensacola Blue Wahoos games against the Jacksonville Suns.

Wuerffel, born in Pensacola and a graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School, and Shackelford, a former linebacker for Ole Miss, will both throw out first pitches before the 6:35 p.m. game. During the game, fans will be able to get autographs on the concourse.

Hancock Bank Club, Regions Bank and Wahoos Lounge members are able to attend a pregame meet and greet from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. located in the Wahoos Lounge at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.

Shackelford is the 10th recipient of the Wuerffel Trophy, named in honor of Wuerffel who led the Florida Gators to their first national title season in 1996 as the quarterback.

The Wuerffel Trophy is resented by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach to the college football players who best combines exemplary community service with athletics and academic achievement.
