Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Wisconsin Timber Rattler Catcher Chao Kuan Wu drove in three runs to help the Rattlers to a 6-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs Saturday afternoon. Wu, Robby Hudson, and Mike Saunders each had a pair of hits for the Rattlers. Nick Allen picked up the win with 2-1/3 innings of scoreless work out of the bullpen.

The Rattlers (2-0) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with a three run first inning. Wu, playing in his first game since July 7, 2005, smacked an RBI single into center for a 1-0 advantage. An error on a potential double play allowed the second Wisconsin run to score. Bryan Sabatella drove in the final run of the inning with a fielder's choice.

Peoria (1-2) got a run in the third inning on a two-out double to center by Ryan Norwood.

The Chiefs threatened again in the top of the fourth, but a stellar defensive play by left fielder Alex Gary kept the Rattler lead at 3-1. Robinson Chirinos smacked a two out single to left and Jesus Valdez tried to scored from second. Gary's throw beat Valdez to home plate by ten feet and WU slapped on the tag for the final out.

Wisconsin added three runs with four straight hits in the bottom of the fourth. Hudson drove in the first run of the fourth with a single. Wu drove in two more runs with a single that Chief centerfielder Matt Ciaramella lost in the sun and the Rattlers went up 6-1.

Timber Rattler starting pitcher Paul Fagan retired the first two batters of the fifth inning, but ran into trouble and could not get qualify for the win. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Alberto Garcia and Brandon Taylor chased Fagan from the game and cut the Wisconsin lead to 6-3.

Allen entered the game and retired Valdez on a flyball to right to end the inning.

Allen got into his own jam in the top of the seventh. The Chiefs loaded the bases with nobody out on an error, a walk, and a single. But, Allen got out of it with a popout, a strikeout, and a force out.

Joe Woerman pitched a scoreless eighth and Edgar Guaramato worked a scoreless ninth for his first save as a Rattler.

The Rattlers and Chiefs wrap up their series Sunday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. Marwin Vega gets the starting pitching assignment for Wisconsin. Peoria counters with Jesus Yepez. Game time is 1:05pm.
