Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

BATTLE CREEK, MI-The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays rewarded the fans that came out to the Home Opener by giving them extra innings and a win.

It took the D-Rays 12 innings to finally put away the Lugnuts in today's game. It was a defensive chess match that ended in the bottom of the twelfth for a 2-1 Rays victory.

In the final inning, Matt Devins led off with a walk. John Matulia then hit into a fielder's choice and the Lugnuts forced out Devins. With Matulia on first, Matt Spring singled to left field and Matulia advanced to 3rd on a fielding error on Brian Pettway. Hunter Vick then drove in Matulia for the game winning run with a suicide squeeze bunt.

Right hander, Wade Davis, made his Midwest League debut tossing 4+ innings of one-run, three-hit ball, walking two and fanning six. Davis struck out the side in the first inning. Relievers, Aaron Walker, Greg Dupas and Chris Kelly combined for eight no-hit innings. Kelly picked up the win with a perfect twelfth inning.

Sunday, the Devil Rays and the Lugnuts will finish off their first series of the year at 3:35 at C.O. Brown Stadium.
