Jackson Generals News Release

JACKSON, TENN. - Good pitching and a pair of tough breaks turned Saturday's game between the Jackson Generals and Mississippi Braves, leading Mississippi to a 2-0 win. The series opener at The Ballpark at Jackson marked the seventh straight loss for the Generals (19-16), as well as their second time being held scoreless in the last three days.

Starting for the first time since April 27 at Mississippi, Justin Donatella (1-2, 3.16 ERA) worked 5.1 innings and allowed only two runs, striking out five men without walking a batter. Yuhei Nakaushiro allowed one of the runners he inherited from Donatella in the sixth inning to score, but Mason McCullough and Sam Lewis delivered three straight scoreless frames to keep the Generals within reach into the ninth. The Generals' staff only allowed one walk and did not allow any extra-base hits.

Mississippi right-hander Kyle Wright (2-4, 4.03 ERA) impressed in seven innings of work, holding the Generals scoreless with five strikeouts and only five runs allowed. Wright's full- count walk of Marcus Littlewood with two outs in the seventh inning-one of just three Jackson baserunners in the final six innings--snapped a streak of 30 consecutive innings without the Generals having earned a walk. Kevin Medrano was the only General to manage multiple hits, moving into the team lead with a .380 batting average. The Generals were held without an extra base-hit and left six men on base.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

TOP 4: Tyler Neslony singles with one out, and he remains at first base when the next hitter strikes out. With two outs, Neslony is on the move as Alex Jackson singles to the left field corner. Jamie Westbrook cuts off the ball before it gets to the left field wall, but a slight hesitation in his throw to the infield spurs Neslony to round third base and score, rather than stay by the bag. Jackson remains at first on the single, and Daniel Lockhart flies out to end the frame, but the damage is done.

SCORE: CHA 1, JXN 0

TOP 6: Tyler Neslony is hit with a pitch to begin the inning, and he steals second base to get in scoring position. After a strikeout, Alex Jackson singles to shallow left-center field. A strong throw from Daniel Robertson in center field keeps Neslony from scoring, though it allows Jackson to reach second base. Donatella is removed, but Yuhei Nakaushiro allows Daniel Lockhart to poke a single into center field over a drawn-in infield. Neslony scores, but Jackson makes a big turn around third base, and Robertson picks him off with a nice throw to Juniel Querecuto for the tag-out. The out creates a man-on, two-out situation rather than a two-on, one out situation, easing the load on Nakaushiro a bit. He gets a Cleuluis Rondon groundout to end the frame thereafter.

SCORE: CHA 2, JXN 0
