Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (15-22) snapped their four-game losing skid, defeating the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-22), 1-0, behind a complete game shutout from starting pitcher Zach Lee (5-1) on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. Lee became the first Montgomery pitcher to record a complete game shutout since Anthony Misiewicz on August 27, 2017. The last three Biscuits' complete game shutouts at Riverwalk Stadium have been 1-0 wins.
Lee, who had never pitched a nine-inning complete game in his eight-year career, allowed Jumbo Shrimp on base in eight-of-nine frames. The former San Diego Padre stranded runners on the corners in the second, inducing a Mason Davis groundout to end the inning.
Tampa Bay Rays' number 12 prospect Nick Solak extended his on-base streak to 24 games with a two-hit afternoon. The left fielder broke the scoreless game with a fourth-inning home run to straightaway center field, which snapped Jacksonville starting pitcher Pablo Lopez's 22.2 consecutive scoreless innings streak to begin the right-hander's Double-A career.
Solak's home run was the only run allowed by Lopez. The Miami Marlins' number 21 prospect scattered five hits and struck out seven over seven innings, keeping the Jumbo Shrimp within striking distance.
John Norwood and Eric Jagielo singled off Lee to begin the ninth. Former Biscuit Cade Gotta advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, provoking a mound visit by Montgomery manager Brady Williams.
As Roel Ramirez was warming in the bullpen, Williams kept faith in his starter, allowing Lee to face Skyler Ewing. Ewing, who had homered on Saturday, struck out on a foul tip. With two outs and runners at second and third, Lee got Brian Schales to fly out, clinching Montgomery's third shutout of the season.
The Biscuits continue their 10-game homestand at 6:35 p.m. on Monday night against Jacksonville. Knuckleballer J.D. Martin (1-5) will start for Montgomery while the Jumbo Shrimp are scheduled to pitch Merandy Gonzalez (0-1), who is coming off six relief appearances with the Miami Marlins
The remainder of the five-game series includes a Golden Biscuits Monday on May 14, a Dollar Dog Tuesday on May 15 and a Grand Slam School Day on the morning of May 16.
