MOBILE, Ala. - A three-run fourth inning erased an early deficit and helped the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, even the series with a 3-2 win over the Birmingham Barons Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Zach Houchins hit an RBI triple in the fourth to tie the game 1-1, and he scored the go-ahead run on a Zach Gibbons base hit. Gibbons later scored the third run of the frame on Bo Way's two-out single.
The Barons (18-19) plated runs in the third and sixth against Jose Rodriguez (2-4), but Jeremy Rhoades got the BayBears (17-19) out of a jam in the sixth. He recorded a strikeout with runners on second and third to end the inning and preserve the 3-2 lead. Rhoades kept Birmingham off the board in the next two frames to extend his scoreless streak to 18 consecutive innings.
Despite a leadoff walk and a two-out hit-by-pitch, Matt Custred struck out two batters and induced a groundout to earn his first Double-A save.
White Sox top prospect Eloy Jimenez went 3-for-4 with an RBI infield single in the third and a run scored in the sixth. Spencer Adams (2-4) recorded a quality start, giving up three runs on six hits over six innings, but took the loss.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Birmingham Monday at 6:35 p.m. Angels No. 8 prospect Griffin Canning (1-0, 2.31 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Brandon Brennan (2-0, 4.34 ERA) for the Barons.
