Montgomery Biscuits News Release
PEARL, Miss. - Matt Wright had given up a combined 19 hits and 13 runs in his previous two losses to the Montgomery Biscuits, but Saturday at Trustmark Park, he threw eight innings of five-hit, shutout ball in a 5-0 Braves victory.
The Biscuits got three baserunners as far as third base but failed to score. Twice, they placed that runner at third with one out, but Wright worked out of the jam each time. Wright walked none and struck out four.
Blaine Boyer threw a perfect ninth in his first relief appearance of the year.
Braves center fielder Gregor Blanco hit a solo home run against Biscuits starter Scott Autrey in the third inning to give the Braves all they needed. It was the 14th homer allowed by Autrey and the 44th by the Biscuits, both of which lead the league. Jeff Francoeur also doubled in a run in the inning.
The Braves added three more in the next inning, including a two-run double by Onil Joseph.
Jamie Shields threw three innings in his 2005 Biscuits debut. He allowed only a walk and a hit batter and struck out five.
Game three of the series is Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
