Mississippi Braves News Release

The Mississippi Braves downed the Montgomery Biscuits 5-0 in front of 4,344 fans tonight at Trustmark Park. The Braves returned to their winning ways behind the strong pitching of Matt Wright and timely hitting throughout the lineup.

Braves starter Matt Wright (8.0 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 4 K) had an outstanding start for Mississippi. Wright shutdown the vaunted Biscuit offensive attack with eight shutout innings. He is the first Braves' starter to make it into the eighth inning of a game this year. Blaine Boyer threw a perfect ninth inning in his first relief appearance of the year.

The Braves struck first when Gregor Blanco blasted his third homer of the year over the right field wall in the third inning. Scott Thorman then singled and scored on Jeff Francoeur's Southern League leading 19th double of the year.

Mississippi put three more runs on the board in the fourth when Juan Velazquez singled and scored on a single by Luis Hernandez. Blanco followed Hernandez's single with a walk, and they both scored when Onil Joseph doubled down the right field line, making the score 5-0.

Biscuits starter Scott Autrey (5.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HR) was saddled with the loss, making him 2-6 on the year.

The Braves and the Biscuits will face off again tomorrow at 2:05 at Trustmark Park. LHP Brian O'Connor (3-1, 3.96) will take the hill for Mississippi while Montgomery will counter with RHP Gerardo Garcia (0-1, 7.20).
