Wray's Tallies Lead Rage to Come-from-Behind Win

February 13, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Wichita - Down 2-0 with less than 13 minutes remaining in regulation, the Rocky Mountain Rage stormed from behind to defeat the Wichita Thunder at the Kansas Coliseum. Scott Wray scored twice to spearhead the comeback, and Marty Magers made 26 saves as the Rage concluded a season-long seven-game road trip with a record of 4-3-0.

The Thunder struck in the game's first minute when Joel Hanson scored off a rebound just 54 seconds into the game and would keep their 1-0 edge until the third period. Rocky Mountain had plenty of chances to tie the game but could not solve Wichita goaltender Krister Toews after 40 minutes despite skating on seven consecutive power play chances through the first 90 seconds of the third.

Finally awarded their second power play of the game about two minutes into the final frame, the Thunder netted an insurance marker off the stick of Marc Belanger at 3:27. In the end, though, it would not be enough.

Wray ignited the comeback by pitching home his 18th of the year off a rebound at 7:11 to pull the Rage within 2-1. The club then skated on its eighth power play of the evening and finally cashed in. Jarred Mohr fired into traffic and managed to find the back of the net, tying the game at two at 12:42. Just 17 seconds later following an offensive zone face-off, a Preston Briggs shot forced Toews to give up a rebound, which was sent home by Wray to suddenly give Rocky Mountain a 3-2 lead.

Magers was perfect down the stretch, securing his fourth victory over the Thunder in as many tries. Mohr recorded a goal and an assist on the night, and Simon Watson helped set-up both of Wray's goals to keep alive what is now a nine-game point streak.

Rocky Mountain won three of its final four games on the road trip and now returns home for its only game at Broomfield Event Center during the month of February. The club faces-off on Sunday afternoon against the Mississippi RiverKings for the third time in four games at 3:05 p.m.

The Rage will be wearing specialty jerseys against the RiverKings to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. The sweaters will be auctioned off following the game to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Broomfield Event Center Foundation.

It is also Ladies Day on Sunday at the BEC featuring two tickets, two slices of pizza, and two glasses of wine for just $30.

Individual tickets for the game against Mississippi are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID.
