
Bucks Horrify Scorps On Friday The 13th, Win 3-1

RIO RANCHO, NM- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the New Mexico Scorpions 3-1 Friday night at the Santa Ana Star Center. Both Laredo and Texas won Friday night, keeping the Bucks 10 points back of the Brahmas in the Southeast Division. Laredo improves to 27-16-4 (58pts), as they won the first game on their season-high five game road trip.
Sebastien Centomo played stellar in net in his return from injury, stopping 31 of 32 Scorpions shots. Centomo picked up his 17th win in net this season for the Bucks.
Serge Dube picked up two points (1-1=2), including scoring the game-winning goal in the second period to lead Laredo to the win.
The Bucks are now 3-8-3 in their last 14 road contests.
The first period was scoreless, as neither the Bucks or Scorpions could light the lamp.
The Bucks penalty kill got a workout in the first 20 minutes, as they killed off all four of the Scorpions power-plays.
Laredo outshot New Mexico (18-27-2) in the first period 12-11.
The Scorpions would jump out in front of the Bucks as they scored on the power-play 7:22 into the second period. Torren Delforte knocked in a rebound from the left side of the crease, to give New Mexico a 1-0 lead.
The Bucks would battle back and score two five-on-three power-play goals.
Laredo would tie the game at 1-1 when Darryl Smith ripped a shot from the right circle past Kyle McNulty on the two-man advantage.The tally was Smith's team-leading 27th of the season, including his team-leading ninth power-play strike.
The Bucks would take a 2-1 lead as they scored another five-on-three goal with 5:!6 left in the second. Serge Dube banged in a rebound right in front of McNulty in the crease, to score his ninth of the campaign.
The Bucks were 2-5 on the power-play in the second period.
Laredo outshot New Mexico in the second period 15-9.
The Bucks are now 17-1-1 when they lead after two periods.
Alex Goupil scored an empty net goal with 59 seconds left in the third period to ice the game for the Bucks. The strike was Goupil's 19th of the season.
Laredo outshot New Mexico for the game 38-32.
McNulty stopped 35 of 38 shots in net for the Scorpions, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
The Bucks and Scorpions will meet again Saturday night.
Laredo has won seven straight regular season games against New Mexico, to improve to 10-1-2 all-time in the series.
Laredo will return home for the final Big Buck Thirsty Thursday of the season on February 26th when they host Arizona at the LEC, where beer will be $2 all game long.
