Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today the team has signed center Evan Schwabe (pronounced Schwab) and re-signed left wing Marco Peluso for the upcoming 2005-06 season.
"Evan comes highly recommended from a lot of coaches in the WCHA who have watched him play for the last four years," said Wranglers General Manager / Head Coach Glen Gulutzan. "He is a quality person and a quality player who had tremendous success at the college level. Schwabe and Marco had some great chemistry at UMD when they played together and we hope they can pick up where they left off."
Schwabe will make his professional debut after completing a decorated four-year career at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Schwabe finished among the team's top two scorers his last two seasons and ranked as one of the highest scoring collegiate players in the country, posting 102 points in his final 83 games. Schwabe was selected to the All-WCHA second team for a second consecutive season in 2004-05. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound center occupied the top spot on the 2004-05 Bulldog scoring charts with 45 points with a career-high 19 goals and 26 assists and finished among the WCHA leaders in a multitude of statistical categories. Schwabe posted career highs as a junior with 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points in 45 games played. The 57 points ranked third in the country and his 38 helpers ranked first in the nation. Schwabe improved by 47 points from his sophomore season to his junior season, the third-highest season turnaround in UMD's 53-year history. The Moose Jaw, SASK native acted as the 2004-05 Bulldog team captain and was selected three times to the WCHA All-Academic Team.
"It's exciting for me to turn pro and come to Las Vegas", said Evan Schwabe. "It's a new challenge for me and I want to build off of my success at the college level and do some great things at the pro level. It's going to be nice playing with Marco again and I am looking forward to it. "
Joining Schwabe in signing is Marco Peluso, who returns to the Wranglers after an impressive stint with Las Vegas for the final 12 games of the year. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound winger scored twice and dished out seven assists for nine points, while adding 11 penalty minutes. Peluso came to the Wranglers after a standout season at UMD in which he ranked third on the team in scoring with 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points in 35 games played. Peluso's 19 goals tied for the team lead with Schwabe. The 24-year old winger also racked up 54 penalty minutes during his senior season as a Bulldog.
