WORLD JUNIORS: Bedard & Canada Capture Gold at 2022 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship

Edmonton, Alta. - Connor Bedard and Canada captured their 19th all-time gold medal at the World Juniors, defeating Finland 3-2 in overtime for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, Saturday.
Bedard, 17, was held off the scoresheet in the gold medal game, but recorded three shots on goal over 23:19 of ice time. The North Vancouver, B.C. product finished the tournament with eight points (4G-4A) in seven games,
Canada had a 2-0 lead escape them in the third period, allowing two unanswered Finland goals to force overtime. After Canada's captain Mason McTavish saved the puck from crossing the line in OT, Canada went the other way, where Kent Johnson would score the overtime winner for Canada's first gold medal at the World Juniors since 2020, when Canada defeated Russia, 4-3. It is also Canada's first gold medal when winning in overtime at the World Juniors since 2008.
The entire Regina Pats organization would like to congratulate Connor Bedard and Hockey Canada on winning gold at the 2022 IIHF World Juniors. For Bedard, it's his second championship with Hockey Canada, after he helped Canada win U18 gold last summer, tallying 14 points (7G-7A) in seven games.
