Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Nick Salotti and Abraham Nunez each had homeruns as the Tornadoes defeated the Boulders 6-4 on Wednesday night at Provident Bank Park. Nick Serino earned his first professional win (1-4) by pitching an inning of scoreless ball, stranding both runners he inherited from starter Matt McDonald in the fifth.

Worcester never trailed in its fifth game of the season against Rockland, scoring first in the first inning. Alex Nunez came across the plate on Mark Minicozzi's RBI single, and the Boulders tied the game in the bottom half of the frame.

In the second, the Tornadoes took the lead for good. Nunez scored again, this time on Abraham Nunez's RBI double with two outs, giving Worcester a 2-1 lead. Salotti hit his homer in the third, putting the Tornadoes up by three.

Rockland never tied the game again, but did pull within a run. After Cam Monger's RBI double gave the Tornadoes a 5-2 lead, the Boulders scored a pair in the fifth on Ryde Rodriguez's sacrifice fly and Scott Clement's RBI single.

Nunez added his solo shot in the top of the sixth inning, capping the game's scoring.

Sean Gregory, Albert Ayala and Rick Asadoorian all had scoreless outings for Worcester, as the starting pitchers were responsible for all of the game's ten runs. Asadoorian picked up his fifth save in seven chances.

Game two of the series is Thursday night at 7:05pm, as Kevin Cooper will face the Rockland Boulders' ace, Bobby Blevins.
