
Woodpeckers Win Marathon over Jackets

North Augusta, SC - Four hours and 41 minutes later, the game ended. The GreenJackets fell 11-10 on Friday to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Houston Astros) despite drawing 20 walks. A total of 11 pitchers threw in the game and the two squads combined for 21 hits.
Fayetteville grabbed the first run in the 2nd inning when J.C. Correa singled to score Shay Whitcomb. Augusta had an answer though. Braulio Vasquez blasted a two-run shot to make it a 2-1 game. A throwing error later in the inning allowed Cade Bunnell to score from 2nd to make it 3-1.
Fayetteville added five runs over the next three innings and had a healthy lead at 6-3 going to the home- half of the 5th. The Jackets had an answer though.
A four-run 5th gave Augusta a 7-6 lead. The inning was highlighted by Vasquez stealing home plate to tie the game. Willie Carter walked with the bases loaded to give the Jackets a lead.
In the 7th inning, Fayetteville scored five times to take the lead back. The Jackets scored three times in the 8th, but in the 9th, Augusta got the tying run to 2nd base but couldn't tie it.
NOTES:
Willie Carter extended his on-base streak to 13 games.
Cade Bunnell walked three times and has 14 walks this year.
Roddery Munoz finished with seven strikeouts.
