Salisbury, MD - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (24-28) put together their most impressive offensive game of the 2022 season Tuesday night, tying a season high in runs scored in a 13-7 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (18-34). Four different Woodpeckers finished with multiple hits while six different batters drove in at least one run.

Both teams took advantage of mistakes in the field during the first inning. Leosdany Molina came across to score the first run of the game when Delmarva shortstop Noelberth Romero bobbled a ground ball hit by Logan Cerny. In the bottom half of the frame, a Carlos Calderon wild pitch coupled with a Molina throwing error allowed Luis Valdez to scramble home to tie the game at 1-1.

Fayetteville retook the lead in the top of the second when a Kenedy Corona sacrifice fly brought in Tyler Whitaker. However, Shorebirds catcher Creed Willems launched a two-run home run to give Delmarva its first lead of the night, 3-2. They extended their advantage to 5-2 in the third inning thanks to a Trendon Craig two-run single.

The Woodpeckers needed a power surge and they got it in the top of the fourth. Miguel Palma led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, his fourth of the season, to bring the score to 5-3. After a Whitaker double, Corona stepped in with two down and sent a two-run shot over everything in left to tie the ballgame. It was Corona's team-leading ninth long ball of the year and his seventh over the last 15 games.

Delmarva was able to respond in the bottom half of the fourth after surrendering a big top half. Fayetteville reliever Freylin Garcia had a wild pitch get away and Valdez once again scored to retake the lead for the Shorebirds.

The slugfest continued in the fifth. After Joey Loperfido reached on a single, Logan Cerny blasted a two-run bomb out to left for his eighth homer of 2022 to give the Woodpeckers a 7-6 lead. In the top of the sixth, it was Loperfido's turn to drive home runs as he singled in Molina, who tripled moments prior, to extend Fayetteville's lead to 8-6.

The Woodpeckers broke the ballgame open in the top of the seventh. Whitaker drove home Cerny with a sacrifice fly to make the lead three before Corona drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Palma. The next batter, Molina, singled up the middle to score Cody Orr to make it 12-6. Cerny then came to the plate for a second time in the inning and ripped a base hit, scoring Corona and capping off a five-run seventh for Fayetteville to push the advantage to 13-6.

Shea Barry (W, 1-1) was able to hold the Shorebirds scoreless over three innings before leaving the ballgame with one out in the bottom of the eighth in favor of Jayson Schroeder. A sac fly from Valdez brought home a run for Delmarva, but Schroeder limited the damage before pitching a scoreless ninth to secure the victory.

Fayetteville takes a 1-0 series lead into Wednesday night's contest, where RHP Deylen Miley looks to keep the momentum going for the Woodpeckers. For the Shorebirds, RHP Carter Baumler gets the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 ET at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
