Wolves Surge to Finals in Their Inaugural Season

March 17, 2015 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Watertown Wolves News Release

The Watertown Wolves looked to build on the momentum from last night's exciting win against the Danbury Whalers to advance to Federal Hockey League Finals in their inaugural season. Danbury looked to make their third trip to the FHL Finals in three seasons and reclaim the cup they lost last year to the Dayton Demonz.

Each team came out playing a physical game in the first period, with Watertown racking up 3 penalties and Danbury earning 4. The lone goal of the period came from Watertown's Cody Dion on assists from Brent Patry and Phil Bronner.

Both teams continued with aggressive, physical play. Lucas LaBelle extended Watertown's lead on a pass from Justin Alonzo. Danbury's Luke Warner and Watertown's Chad Bennett let the animosity boil over and duked it out after the period ended, putting them both of them in the box to start the third period.

Danbury started to mount a comeback with a goal by Ilya Solarev one minute into the third period. Lucas LaBelle would get his second goal of the night on a fast break to extend the Wolves' lead. Aaron Atwell added a goal to Watertown's tally followed by Brent Patry's short-handed empty-netter. Matt Caranci tried to turn things around for Danbury on a goal with a minute and twenty-five seconds left. Watertown bested the Whalers 5-2.

Watertown's Lucas LaBelle, Cody Dion, and Danbury's Ilya Solarev earned the first, second, and third stars of the game respectively.

The 1st seed Watertown Wolves will start the best-of-5 series for the cup on Friday, March 20th at the Watertown Municipal Ice Arena against the 3rd seed Danville Dashers. The puck drops at 7:35 pm.
