Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves reduced their roster down to 32 players as the team prepares for the next phase of the 2011 Try-out Camp. Thirty-two (32) hopefuls including 18 returning players will continue into day 3 of training camp competition at the Sudbury Arena. Wolves' Head Coach TRENT CULL is pleased with the results so far:
"This year's camp is certainly a notch faster and more intense than last year's camp" notes Cull. "The players competed hard and there was lots of physical contact. We have some banged-up bodies as 57 players came to play and they all gave it their best shot." Cull added that there have been some pleasant surprises so far: "I was really impressed with our newly drafted players. The 16 year olds really battled hard against the older players at camp. I was also pleased with our returning players as well as the free agents that we invited to camp. We still have a number of difficult decisions to make and the upcoming exhibition games will assist us in making our final decisions."
Veteran overage forward MICHAEL MACDONALD did not attend training camp as he continues his rehabilitation from off-season surgery. MACDONALD is expected to rejoin the Wolves in October. The Wolves 4th round selection in the 2011 OHL draft PATRICK CRAMPTON did not attend camp as he is recovers from a hand injury at his home in Ottawa. The Wolves 3rd round selection, DANNY DESROSCHERS suffered an injury in his first scrimmage and returned home to North Bay to treat the injury. DESROSCHERS is expected to rejoin the Wolves within the week.
Due to OHL rules, all 16 year old players must be released or signed to an OHL card after 48 hours. The Wolves have 1st round selection NICK BAPTISTE and 2nd round selection JACOB HARRIS included in the remaining group. Free agents that remain in camp include: SCOTT MITCHELL, BENI BERISHA, JASON LACROIX, AARON SCOTT, DUSTIN JESSEAU and BRODIE WHITEHEAD.
The four goaltenders remaining at camp include returning goaltender JACOB RILEY, Swedish import JOHAN MATTSSON, 17 year old BRENDAN O'NEILL and new arrival JOEL VIENNEAU from the USHL.
The Wolves will open their pre-season schedule on Thursday night in Barrie before returning home to host the SOO GREYHOUNDS on Friday night at 7:30 at the Sudbury arena. Friday's game is FAMILY NIGHT and all tickets are priced at $12.00 JUNGLE GYMNASTICS will sponsor Friday's game with prizes for lucky fans. CBC RADIO will also be giving away prizes at the game!
