
Wolves Open Preseason with 5-3 Win Over Rockford

Rolling Meadows, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves scored first and never relinquished the lead as they defeated the Rockford IceHogs, 5-3, in their preseason opener at West Meadows Ice Arena Wednesday night.
Forwards Akim Aliu, Mauro Juri, Dan Kissel and Michael Davies and defenseman Matt Krug scored for Chicago, while Wolves goaltenders Chris Carrozzi (16-17) and Edward Pasquale (11-13) split time in Pasquale's win.
Chicago (1-0) got on the board first with 1:45 remaining in the first period. Maxime Tanguay drove down the boards and slipped a pass to Aliu, who passed it across to Juri at the corner of the goal for a quick tap past Rockford netminder Danny Battochio.
Battochio made 14 saves on 15 shots in 30:30 of action, while Jeremie DuPont posted 13 saves in taking the loss for the IceHogs.
Rockford (1-1) evened the score at 10:30 of the second period when left wing Andy drove to the net and deposited a backhanded shot past Carrozzi.
The Wolves pulled ahead, 2-1, when Krug cranked a shot from the blueline past Dupont at 16:05 of the middle frame.
Aliu gave Chicago a 3-1 edge when he took a pass from defenseman Al Dorich and ripped a shot past Dupont 2:15 into the third period.
Dan Kissel added a fourth marker to put Chicago up, 4-1, when he scored on a breakaway at 3:40 of the third period.
The IceHogs narrowed Chicago's lead to 4-2, 7:37 into the third frame when left wing Kyle Hagel crashed the net and knocked the puck past Pasquale and into the net.
Rockford added a third marker with 57 seconds remaining in the contest to pull within one, 4-3, when Peter LeBlanc fired a laser from the slot past Pasquale, but Davies added an empty-net tally with 34 seconds to play to ice the win for Chicago.
The Wolves continue their preseason slate on Friday when they host the Peoria Rivermen at the Hoffman Estates Community Center and Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
