SAGINAW, Mich. â Wojtek Wolski scored at 3:23 of overtime to give the Battalion a 4-3 victory over the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday night, snapping a three-game winless skein by the Troops.
Wolski took a pass from Tyler Harrison and beat Saginaw goaltender Mike Brown from the high slot for his second goal of the season.
Luch Aquino, with his first OHL goal, Harrison and Howie Martin scored the other goals for the Troops, who moved into first place in the Central Division with a won-lost-tied record of 4-2-1, one point ahead of the Sudbury Wolves.
Daren Machesney faced 28 shots in goal for the Battalion, which fired 31 shots at Brown.
Patrick Asselin, Sean Courtney and Jean-Michel Rizk scored for Saginaw, which is winless in four games and 2-4-1 overall, including one overtime loss, in the West Division.
Martin gave the Battalion its first lead of the game at 3-2 at 6:13 of the third period, assisted by Aquino and Dan McDonald, before Rizk forced overtime with his power-play goal at 12:47.
Saginaw got the early jump when Asselin scored the fastest opening goal in Spirit history seven seconds into the first period. Off the opening faceoff, won by Dan Borges, Jamie Klie dumped a shot on goal from the right-wing boards in the neutral zone, producing a rebound that the onrushing Asselin converted from in close to Machesney's right.
Aquino tied it 1-1 at 7:43 after McDonald sprang him on a breakaway from the Saginaw blue line. Aquino raced in on Brown, beating the goaltender between the legs.
Courtney put Saginaw back in front at 2:07 of the second period when he took a pass from Chris Bain and scored on a shot from the left-wing circle. Machesney got a piece of the puck, but it fluttered into the net under his right arm.
Harrison brought the Troops even at 2-2 with his club-leading fifth goal of the season at 6:09. After killing a penalty to Stuart Simmons, Harrison took a pass from Michael Vernace and cruised across the Saginaw zone, outwaiting Brown and firing a shot high into the net from a bad angle to the right of the sprawled netminder.
Tomas Stryncl, Graham McNabb, J.F. Houle and Scott Boomsma did not dress for the Battalion.
Saginaw scratched Sean Grendus, Taylor Raszka and Tom Pyatt.
