Wizards Host Deportivo Saprissa in Champions Cup Opener Tomorrow Night

KANSAS CITY, MO (Tuesday, March 8, 2005) - On Wednesday, March 9th, the Kansas City Wizards will begin play in the prestigious CONCACAF Champions' Cup for just the second time in franchise history. Having earned a spot in the 2005 Champions' Cup by reaching the MLS Cup Final in 2004, the Wizards will host storied Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa in the two-leg, first round series. Game 1 will take place at Arrowhead Stadium on March 9th with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. CT.

Saprissa, who lost in the 2004 Champions' Cup Final to fellow Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense, enters this year's field for the fifth time in the last seven years the tournament has been staged. Tickets for Wednesday night's match are on sale now through Ticketmaster and can be purchased by calling 816-931-3330 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Seating for the Champions Cup match will be limited to the north side of the stadium and all tickets will be Field Level General Admission. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (15 and younger) and WILL NOT be included in any season ticket packages. No other discounts will apply. Tollgates into the Truman Sports Complex will open at 5:00 p.m. on March 9th and parking is just $5 per vehicle. All fans entering the stadium will enter through Gate B on the northeast side of Arrowhead Stadium. Gate B will open at 6:00 p.m. and kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.

The Kansas City Wizards are one of two representatives from the United States that will take part in the 2005 CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Wizards, by virtue of being the runner-up in MLS Cup last season, and MLS Cup Champions D.C. United will represent the United States in the 2005 CONCACAF Champions Cup, the annual regional tournament featuring the top clubs from North and Central America and the Caribbean. The winner of the Champions Cup will advance to the FIFA World Club Championship in Japan.
