Colorado Rapids News Release
THREE IS NOT A CROWD: After competing against more then 170 other players Sunday at the Rapids' first open tryouts since the team's inception, three talented players are traveling today with the team to Birmingham, Alabama in hopes of signing a developmental contract with the team. The Rapids currently have three of their 10 developmental spots on the team open. Below is information on the three players who made it through the Rapids' Open Tryouts and have earned a trip to Alabama:
Boubacar Doumbouya -Forward-
HT: 6'3" WT: 160
D.O.B: 02-24-85 in Baugouni, Mali
Joshua Elbaum -Midfielder-
HT: 5'9" WT: 165
D.O.B.: 08-19-81 in Denver, CO
Michael Cardenas -Goalkeeper-

ANOTHER PEGUERO?: Fabrice Noel, a 19-year old Haitian forward, arrived in the Rapids' spring training camp on Monday, March 7 after completing his participation in the Copa Latina tournament in Florida. In the past two seasons at Florida's Palm Beach Lakes High School, Noel has been the best offensive player in the state. He led the Rams with 58 goals as a senior after producing 35 goals and 20 assists last season, and has already gathered extensive international experience playing for the Haitian National Team on their Under-20, Under-17 and Under-15 sides.
FITNESS RESULTS: After a two-day testing period performed by Jose Luis Dávila (the specialist in soccer fitness evaluation that the Rapids brought in from Uruguay last week to evaluate the team), the Black and Blue's fitness training sessions led by Fitness Coach Jose Carlos De León will look slightly different from the ones held before the evaluation period. The Rapids players will from now on be divided into three different groups that will be focusing on specific areas that they need to improve upon. Davila's analyses have already given De Leon a better idea of the specific areas that he needs to continue working on with the players as part of his fitness plan.
A CUP FOR THE AGES: The newest sports rivalry in Major League Soccer and the Rocky Mountain region finally has a name, the "Rocky Mountain Cup", it was announced by the fan-based Committee of 10 (C10) after counting votes cast by over 500 fans in both Colorado and Utah. Voters going to www.RealRapidsCup.com were presented with competition name choices for the new annual series between the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake. The overwhelming favorite and winner, tallying twice as many votes as the nearest rival, was the Rocky Mountain Cup.
