Sporting Kansas City News Release

The Kansas City Wizards (3-3-2, 11 pts) return to action quickly after a mid-week draw against D.C. United with a match Saturday in Columbus against the 2008 MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew (0-2-5, 5 pts). The game will be broadcast live nationally on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español, with kickoff at 6 p.m. CT. Including the playoffs, Saturday's combatants faced one another five times in 2008.

Kansas City enters Saturday's contest in a tie for 3rd place in the Eastern Conference with the Chicago Fire. The Wizards are 3-1-2 in their last six matches, including a road win at Seattle Sounders FC and a road tie at Chicago. Columbus is 0-2-5 on the year, but has experienced several near misses. The 2008 champions have much of the same roster from their title-winning team, but have suffered numerous injuries early in the season.

The Crew eliminated the Wizards from the 2008 MLS Cup playoffs after the Wizards led Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series until a stoppage-time equalizer from Steven Lenhart helped Columbus to a 1-1 draw. The Crew then won Game 2 by a 2-0 score line to advance, eventually defeating the New York Red Bulls to capture their first-ever MLS Cup championship.

Budweiser is sponsoring a watch party for Wizards fans for Saturday night's match at Fox and Hound in Overland Park, Kan. Fox and Hound will offer food and beverage specials. The Jimmy Conrad Show will also take place at Fox and Hound next Wednesday, May 13 from 7-8 p.m. CT.
