
Wizards display power to down the Whitecaps

FORT WAYNE, IN - Daryl Jones went 4-for-4 with five RBI to lead Fort Wayne to an 11-3 victory over the Whitecaps.
West Michigan starter Erik Averill took the loss and allowed five runs on four hits in four innings of work.
The Wizards grabbed an 8-0 lead through five innings, but had only four hits. Fort Wayne scored three runs in the fifth without the benefit of a hit.
In the top of the sixth, the Whitecaps struck quickly to put two runs on the board. Matt Joyce knocked an RBI triple to center and scored as the next batter, Ryan Roberson picked up an infield single.
Joyce added an RBI in the ninth when Mike Hollimon scored on a ground ball to pitcher Jon Link.
Josh Geer threw five shutout innings for Fort Wayne and earned the victory.
Ray Chang added a solo home run for the Wizards. Fort Wayne scored in six different innings.
The Whitecaps posted 10 hits in the game and have collected 32 hits over their first three games. However, the âCaps also left 13 runners on base.
Top of the Charts: Through the first three days of the season, West Michigan led the league with a .301 team batting average.
The Defending Champs: The Whitecaps will complete the current road trip with a three game series in South Bend against the defending Midwest League Champion Silver Hawks.
