Devil Rays Fall to Lugnuts

April 9, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

BATTLE CREEK, Mich.--The Devil Rays lost by a score of 7 to 2 in the final game of the season opening series against the Lansing Lugnuts. Southwest Michigan started the game strong, putting up a run in the first inning, but was unable to overcome a second inning when the Lugnuts scored five runs off of six hits.

Garrett Groce had a great day at the plate for the Rays, going 3-for-4. Groce would have had four hits if it wasn't for a miraculous diving catch by Lansing left fielder Brian Pettway.

Devil Rays starter, Greg Reinhard, was charged with five earned runs on ten hits in six innings with three strikeouts. The bullpen combination of Drew Bigda and Billy Evers combined for three innings allowing an unearned run off of two hits.

The Devil Rays fall to 1-3 on the year. The Rays will host the Fort Wayne Wizards in a three game series beginning Monday night at 6:35.
