CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, May 7, 2006) - With a first-half header from midfielder Brent Whitfield, Chivas USA defeated the Seattle Sounders 1-0 tonight in an exhibition match played in front of a pro-Chivas crowd of nearly 6,000 at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington.

Whitfield, a native of Long Beach, California, headed home a cross from Chivas USA winger Francisco Mendoza in the 43rd minute to put the Red-and-White on top for good. Whitfield, together with Chivas USA teammate Preston Burpo, was a member of the Sounders' USL Division 1 championship squad in 2005 before joining Chivas USA during the offseason.
