April 4, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland picked up two key wins over division rivals Everett and Seattle last week, inching closer to sealing up home-ice advantage for at least the first round of the 2022 WHL Playoffs.

Hot Hawks:

Forward Jaydon Dureau led all Winterhawks with four points (all goals) on Friday and Saturday, netting one in Everett before lighting up Seattle for his third hat trick of the year.

Forward Gabe Klassen posted three points (1G, 2A) during the team's two wins last week, and boasts points in four straight outings (4G, 4A) heading into this week's road trip. Klassen (32) sits one goal shy of James Stefan (33) for the team lead.

Forward Cross Hanas tallied a team-high four points (1G, 3A) alongside Dureau - pushing his team-leading point total to 81 on the year - including the game-winning goal in overtime on Friday and his 100th WHL assist on the game-winner on Saturday.

Defenseman Clay Hanus struck with just 12 seconds remaining on Friday to force overtime in Everett, then picked up assist #100 in the WHL on Dureau's game-winning goal on Saturday. Hanus now has points in eight of his last nine outings (5G, 9A) and his 69 points rank second among WHL blueliners.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier picked up back-to-back wins over Everett and Seattle last week, stopping 69 of 77 shots in the process and picking up an assist on Marcus Nguyen's goal on Friday. Gauthier has won five of his last six appearances and leads the WHL with a .929 save percentage.

Weekly Rewind:

Portland 5 at Everett 4 OT (Friday):

Marcus Nguyen, Clay Hanus and Cross Hanas each tallied a goal in a span of 4:34 across the third period and overtime as the Winterhawks rallied from a two-goal deficit to knock off the Silvertips 5-4 in Everett on Friday.

Portland 5 vs Seattle 4 (Saturday):

Jaydon Dureau posted his third hat trick of the season as the Winterhawks held off the Thunderbirds' comeback bid to take a 5-4 victory at the VMC on Saturday.

The Week Ahead:

It's time to trek north of the border once more as the Hawks play two on the road this week.

First up, it's a potential playoff preview in Langley as Portland takes on the Vancouver Giants. Still searching for their first win against the Giants this season, the Winterhawks will be keen to pick up two points and gain some confidence against what could be their first-round opponent. Puck drop is set for 7:30 P.M. on Friday night.

Then on Saturday, two of the best in the Western Conference clash as the Hawks look to knock off the Kamloops Blazers. Portland is 1-2-0-0 against second-seed Kamloops this year, but the team's performances have improved steadily in each matchup. Catch the game at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday.
