Portland Winterhawks News Release
Opening up the month of February with a pair of road games, the Winterhawks took down both Tri-City and Spokane in their home arenas on Friday and Saturday to extend their point streak to a league-best 16 games (15-0-0-1). Portland has now won nine consecutive contests dating back to Jan. 16, and is averaging 5.7 goals per game over that span.
Entering the new week, the Winterhawks boast 10 players on point streaks.
Hot Hawks:
Forward Kyle Chyzowski tallied goals in both contests last week, stretching his goal streak to four games. Chyzowski's four-game outburst is his longest goal or point streak this season.
Forward Cross Hanas continues to put up points in bunches with two more multi-point outings on Friday (1G, 2A) and Saturday (2A). Hanas has found the scoresheet in four straight games, recording two or more points in each of those.
Forward Jaydon Dureau returned from injury against Tri-City, then erupted for four points against Spokane on Saturday as he recorded the team's first hat trick of the season.
Forward James Stefan tallied three goals last week, including a second consecutive two-goal showing at Tri-City on Friday. Stefan netted his third of the week on Saturday against Spokane, marking his team-best 23rd goal of the year.
Forward Marcus Nguyen scored in both games last week and has goals in three straight games, lighting the lamp four times in that span.
Defenseman Luca Cagnoni recorded assists in each of last week's two matchups to stretch his point streak to four games, his longest such streak (of consecutive games without being scratched) of the year.
Defenseman and co-captain Clay Hanus pushed his point streak to nine games (matching the team's win streak) with an assist on Friday followed by a goal and another helper on Saturday. Hanus' season-long mark of 40 points (10G, 30A) ranks third among WHL defensemen.
Play of the Week:
