Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, are excited to draft one player at the 2021 CHL Import Draft held on Wednesday, June 30 at 8:00 a.m. PT. The Winterhawks hold the 26th overall selection in this week's draft.

The Winterhawks have elected to protect the rights to 2020-21 Co-Team Most Valuable Player Simon Knak, defenseman Jonas Brøndberg and recently acquired goaltender Jesper Wallstedt.

In recent years, the Winterhawks have had success adding high-end NHL prospects to their organization through the CHL Import Draft. Nino Niederreiter (2009), Oliver Bjorkstrand (2012) and Henri Jokiharu (2016) all shined in Portland before making it to the NHL. Additionally, forwards Sven Bärtschi (2010) and Joachim Blichfeld (2016) made immediate impacts in the Rose City after being selected in the CHL Import Draft and are currently finding similar success in the American Hockey League.

Twenty four years ago, the Winterhawks added future NHL Hall of Fame forward and Memorial Cup Champion Marián Hossa through the CHL Import Draft.
