Winterhawks Launch Smartphone App

Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks broke new ground last summer with the inception of the team's online radio network, and have taken the next step by launching a free app for the network for iPhone, Android and Blackberry users.
With the new app, the Winterhawks have simplified the process so that smartphone users are just one touch away from 24-hour-a-day Winterhawks coverage. Fans just need to search for "Winterhawks" in their app store, marketplace or app world on their phone, and from there the app can be downloaded for free.
The app allows fans to listen to all Winterhawks games live on their smartphone, as well as podcasts, game replays and on-demand audio. Fans can also browse the team's Facebook and Twitter sites without leaving the app.
Since its launch last summer, the radio network has logged over 30,000 listening hours, and that number is expected to exceed 50,000 hours by the end of the season. It's been heard in 34 countries, including Taiwan, Ghana and Saudi Arabia. Statistics show smartphone usage in the United States is up over 50% in the last year alone.
"With the usage of smartphones continuing to grow, the Winterhawks are at the forefront of this technology, and our app provides our fans with access to the team for free 24 hours a day, seven days a week," said Winterhawks President Doug Piper. "We've received tremendous feedback from fans appreciative of the level of access we provide them. Fans can hear crystal clear radio broadcasts of our games anywhere in the world at the touch of a button."
The Winterhawks initially launched the online radio network via Live365.com, but the new app is owned and operated by the team.
