Winterhawks Fall 6-2 as Kelowna Advances to Western Conference

Portland Winterhawks 2 at Kelowna Rockets 6 - Round 2, Game 5

Prospera Place - Kelowna, BC - Friday, April 14th

The Portland Winterhawks' season came to an end as they fell 6-2 the Kelowna Rockets Friday in Game 5 of the second-round playoff series at Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC.

The Rockets will now advance to the Western Conference Final series where they will face the winner of the Seattle-Everett series.

Scoring Summary:

- 1st @ 4:54 - (PP) Reid Gardiner (Merkley, Thurkauf) opens the scoring for Kelowna. (KEL 1 - POR 0)

- 1st @ 8:51 - (PP) Rodney Southam (Gardiner, Dube) extends Kelowna's lead to 2-0 on the power play. (KEL 2 - POR 0)

- 1st @ 12:41 - Gardiner (Dube, Stephens) nets his second of the night on the power play for a 3-0 Rockets lead. (KEL 3 - POR 0)

- 2nd @ 7:06 - Joachim Blichfeld (Ginnell) fires a shot past Kelowna netminder Michael Herringer to cut the deficit to 3-1. (KEL 3 - POR 1)

- 2nd @ 9:04 - (SH) Matt Revel (Jokiharju) gets the Hawks within one with a shorthanded goal. (KEL 3 - POR 2)

- 3rd @ 9:27 - Gardiner (Merkley, Thurkauf) completes his hat trick to put the Rockets up 4-2. (KEL 4 - POR 2)

- 3rd @ 16:02 - (PP) Gardiner (Dube, Lind) notches his fourth goal of the night on the power play for a 5-2 lead. (KEL 5 - POR 2)

- 3rd @ 17:32 - (EN) Dillon Dube (Gardiner) gets an empty net goal to extend Kelowna's lead to 6-2 and propel the Rockets to victory.
