Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Eight former Winterhawks entered the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup Playoffs with intentions of helping their team lift the prestigious trophy. For all eight round one has now come to a close, so let's take a look at how they performed.

Highlighted by a matchup of Ryan Johansen (2009-11) and Luca Sbisa's (2009-10) Nashville Predators taking on Nino Niederreiter (2009-10) and the Carolina Hurricanes, both former star Winterhawks forwards scored for their respective clubs over the course of six games. Johansen finished tied for second among all Preds skaters, adding three assists for a total of four points in the series - but ultimately it was Niederreiter and the Canes moving on.

Matt Dumba (20213-14) continued his strong play into the postseason, chipping in from the blue line to help his Minnesota Wild take the Vegas Golden Knights to seven games. Playing an average of over 20 minutes per night, the defenseman posted one goal and two assists along the way for his team as well, however, the opposition took Game Seven Friday.

Kieffer Bellows (2017-18) and Braydon Coburn (2001-2005) will have a chance to draw into the lineup in round two for the New York Islanders, as the #4 seed New York Islanders took down Colton Sceviour's #1 Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders will now take on the Bruins next, beginning this weekend.

Lastly, Caleb Jones' (2015-17) season came to an unfortunate end with the Oilers falling to the Winnipeg Jets.
