Game #116

ROPER FANS 10 IN DASH LOSS

The Winston-Salem Dash were given a strong effort on the mound from starter Kaleb Roper, who became the fourth Dash pitcher to record 10 strikeouts in a game this season in Winston-Salem's 10-1 loss to Asheville Wednesday morning.

Roper joined Davis Martin, Johan Dominguez, and Jason Bilous as Dash starters to strike out 10 batters in a start this season, carving up the Tourists over five strong innings. Once Roper exited after the fifth, Asheville plated seven runs between the seventh and ninth innings to take control and cement their second straight win.

The Dash scored their lone run after Brandon Bossard reached on an error in the fifth, scoring on an RBI single from Travis Moniot. Moniot logged his second career three-hit game with the Dash, muscling two singles and a double in the loss.

JIMENEZ GOES FOR ASHEVILLE

Known for throwing hard strikes and his command, Alfredi Jimenez starts for the seventh time for Asheville. Promoted from Low-A Fayetteville on July 27, Jimenez throws a fastball that touches 95 while pounding the zone with strikes - walking just 39 batters in nearly three MiLB season, striking out 182 in the same span.

Used as both a starter and reliever throughout his career, Jimenez has shown he can pitch wherever he is needed most. To date, the righty has saved three games, started 21 times, and pitched 20 times out of the bullpen. By using his fastball and off-speed pitches to keep hitters off-balance, the Astors are able to use the righty however they decide in future MiLB seasons.

TWO-BAGGERS GALORE

During Wednesday's game, Luis Curbelo socked his team-leading 27th double off of Tourist starter Julio Robaina. With three more doubles over the last four games, Curbelo would become the 16th player to reach the 30 double plateau in Dash history. Jameson Fisher - currently with the Double-A Birmingham Barons - was the most recent Dash player to reach the threshold, slugging 30 doubles in 2019.

POPEYE BIDS ADIEU

Before the start of Tuesday's game, the White Sox promoted Jose Rodriguez to Double-A Birmingham. Rodriguez, who is ranked as a top ten prospect in the Chicago White Sox system by MLB Pipeline, has shot through the minor leagues in his age-20 season, playing for the Low-A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, High-A Dash, and Double-A Barons in 2021. In 29 games played with the Dash, Rodriguez slashed .361/.381/.538 with five homers and 19 RBIs, striking out just 13 times in 119 at-bats.

A LOOK AHEAD...WAY AHEAD

With the 2021 season winding down, the Winston-Salem Dash announced their schedule for the 2022 season. While the six-game sets are back for another season, the Dash will open the 2022 campaign with a three-game series against the Hickory Crawdads on April 8. After the Crawdads visit Truist Stadium, the Dash renew their intrastate rivalry with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the Camel City, marking the first of four series between the now-familiar foes.

The final four series of the year will all be held in the state of North Carolina, with road trips to Hickory and Greensboro on the docket as well as home series against the Asheville Tourists and Brooklyn Cyclones. Winston-Salem will play the Cyclones (Mets) and Aberdeen IronBirds (Orioles) for the first time in franchise history in 2022.

A PREVIEW OF TOMORROW

The Dash will name a starter at the conclusion of Thursday's contest, working through rotation options before the start of the game Friday.

Asheville hands the ball to Diosmerky Taveras for the righty-hander's second start with the Tourists. Promoted from Low-A Fayetteville on August 31, Taveras fanned 72 batters in 60.2 innings with the Woodpeckers this season, accruing a 3-4 record and 5.19 ERA.
