ADOLFO, BASABE HELP DASH SEAL SWEEP

Luis Basabe and Micker Adolfo each blasted a home run to lift the Dash to a 5-3 victory over Lynchburg and clinch a series sweep at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday night. With Winston-Salem trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning, Basabe came to the plate with runners on the corners and one out. He launched a 2-1 pitch from Hillcats starter Justin Garza over the right-field fence to give the Dash a 4-3 lead. In the eighth, Adolfo crushed his sixth home run of the season to dead center to give the Dash an insurance run. Drew Hasler picked up his first win of the season, tossing three innings in relief. Zach Thompson added two scoreless frames out of the bullpen, and Mike Morrison shut the door in the ninth to pick up his first save. With the win, Winston-Salem earns its first home sweep of the season.

ADOLFO EARNS CL POM AWARD FOR APRIL

Adolfo turned a strong month of April into the Carolina League's Player of the Month award, the league office announced Thursday. Adolfo becomes the first Winston-Salem player to earn a monthly honor from the league since Nick Basto was named the Player of the Month for April of 2016. In 24 April contests, Adolfo, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the 10th-best prospect in the White Sox system, posted a .308/.369/.549 batting line. His five homers were tops in the circuit, while his 21 RBIs were tied for the best in the league. Entering play Friday, Adolfo leads the Carolina League lead in homers (six), total bases (59) and RBIs (24). Meanwhile, he tied for first in extra-base hits (15), tied for second in doubles (nine), third in slugging percentage (.602) and fifth in batting average (.327). Adolfo was signed by the White Sox as an international free agent at the age of 16 in 2013.

HELLO, DEATH STAR

Friday's series opener against the Astros marks the first of 20 meetings against their Southern Division foe, which is tied for the third-most games against an opponent this season. Coming into this three-game set, Winston-Salem trails Buies Creek by two games in the Southern Division standings. The Astros have been buoyed by their stellar pitching staff, which has posted a league-best 2.82 ERA. Buies Creek's arms also hold four of the top 10 individual spots in the league in ERA.

BASABE NAMED SOX CO-MILB POM

Dash outfielder Luis Basabe, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the 13th-best prospect in the White Sox organization, was named the White Sox co-Minor League Player of the Month for April, along with Winston-Salem alumnus Seby Zavala. Basabe shined through his first 21 games, posting a .313/.400/.614 batting line, leading the Carolina League in slugging percentage and ranking eighth in batting average. The 21-year-old is currently second in the league in slugging percentage (.629) and is tied for second in the league in home runs (five).

THE FORCE IS STRONG

Following back-to-back five-hit efforts, which were tied for the lowest total in a game for the Dash offense this season, the unit has re-established themselves as the best in the 10-team circuit with solid performances from Tuesday through Thursday. Winston sits alone atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.283), on-base percentage (.364), slugging percentage (.449) and doubles (65). Meanwhile, the team is tied for the league lead in hits (256), and they are second in runs scored (136).

TAKE IT TO THE BANK(S)

Dash left-hander Tanner Banks will make his first appearance at BB&T Ballpark since June 25, 2017, when he picked up the win with five shutout innings against the Astros. The southpaw was a Carolina League All-Star with Winston-Salem last year, going 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 14 starts. Banks, who was placed on the Dash roster on April 27 from extended spring training, is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA in three career starts against Buies Creek.

DASH DOTS

While Buies Creek has the best pitching staff in the Carolina League, the Dash rank second with a 3.17 ERA...Friday will be a Star Wars Night, with real-life characters from the movie series in attendance, courtesy of Carolina Garrison/501st Legion.
