ICYMI: Conor Harber struck out five while pitching into the fifth and relievers Daniel Brown, Alec Crawford and Luke Barker combined on eight strikeouts while holding the Pelicans scoreless as the Mudcats snapped a six game losing streak with a 7-0 victory in Myrtle Beach on Thursday night.

ABOUT THE LAST ONE: Carolina's pitching staff totaled a season high 13 strikeouts and shut out an opponent for the fifth time this season in las night's 7-0 victory... The Mudcats offense walked five times and managed to convert a season best four of those five walks into runs... The Carolina bullpen (Daniel Brown, Alec Crawford and Luke Barker) did not issue walk last night. It was the fourth time this season that the Carolina bullpen did not walk a batter in a game.

VS. WOODIES: The Mudcats and Wood Ducks face off tonight in game one of a three game series at Five County Stadium. The Wood Ducks recently swept the Mudcats (April 27 - April 29) in Kinston and lead the overall season series 3-0. Tonight's game is the fourth of 23 meetings between the two teams this season... Weston Wilson (5-for-12, 4 R, 3 HR, 4 RBI) and Keston Hiura (5-for-12, 2 R) are both batting a team best .417 against the Wood Ducks this season.

MUDCATS STARTER: RHP Marcos Diplan has tonight's series opening start against the Wood Ducks. Diplan enters tonight's outing at 1-1 and a 4.37 ERA over five starts this season. He last pitched on April 28 in Kinston against the Wood Ducks and ended up allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Opponents are batting .310 against Diplan and he is currently second in the CL in most walks issued (17) this season.

OPP STARTER: RHP Michael Matuella is slated to start for the Wood Ducks in tonight's series opener at Five County Stadium. Matuella is 0-2 and has pitched to a 10.05 ERA with 12 strikeouts, nine walks and 22 hits allowed over 14.1 innings and four starts this season. He last pitched on April 27 against the Mudcats where he allowed seven runs on five hits over 1.2 innings pitched... Matuella was selected by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2015 draft out of Duke University.

STRUGGLING LATE: Mudcats pitchers have combined to pitch to a 8.64 ERA (20 R, 16 ER, 19 BB, 14 SO) in the ninth inning so far this season. They have also pitched to a 6.63 ERA in the eighth and a 3.71 ERA in the seventh... Conversely, the Carolina pitching staff owns a 3.25 ERA from the 1st through 5th innings this season.

P.O.W.: Weston Wilson was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on April 29. Wilson hit .412/.500/.1.059 and led the Carolina League in OPS (1.559), slugging and home runs (3) during the last week of games running from April 23 through April 29... Ryan Aguilar also won the award the week prior for the week ending on April 22.

WALK THIS WAY: The Mudcats pitching staff has combined to walk a Carolina League and Minor League Baseball high 140 batters so far this season. Carolina is also second in MiLB in BB/9 (5.52) having walked 140 over 27 games and 228.2 innings this season. Only the Great Lakes Loons (Low-A, Midwest League) have a higher BB/9 (5.6) than the Mudcats so far this season (127 BB, 204.1 IP).

HITS AND Ks: The Carolina offense has totaled 66 more strikeouts than hits (274 SO, 208 H) so far this season. Since 1991, only the 2017 Mudcats and 2007 Mudcats finished a season with more strikeouts than hits. Carolina totaled 164 more strikeouts than hits last season (1,245 SO [franchise record], 1,081 H) and 70 more strikeouts than hits in 2007 (1,219 SO, 1,149 H).

WHERE THEY RANK: Cam Roegner is currently 2nd in the Carolina League in lowest earned run average (1.35)... Trey Supak (1.78) is 5th in the CL in lowest earned run average... Conor Harber is currently 6th in the CL in lowest earned run average (1.96)... Conor Harber leads the CL in most walks (18) issued... Marcos Diplan is 2nd in the CL in most walks (17) issued... Chase Williams leads the CL in most games (11) and games finished (10)... Luis Aviles Jr. is 3rd in the CL in stolen bases (11)... Tucker Neuhaus is 4th in the CL in most strikeouts (35)... Max McDowell leads CL catchers in most caught steals (17) and caught stealing efficiency (.531).

GOT HEEEM: Max McDowell leads MiLB catchers in most caught steals (17) and is 2nd in MiLB in caught stealing/stolen base efficiency (.531) for catchers with at least 20 attempts against... McDowell caught four base runners attempting to steal and picked off another at first on Opening Night, 4/5 vs. Winston-Salem. He and the Mudcats also allowed six stolen bases on 4/19 vs. Buies Creek.

NO HITS, NO PROBLEM: Outfielder Rob Henry is currently 0-for-6, but owns a .533 OBP as he has walked seven times (1 R, 1 RBI, 2 SO, 1 SF, 1 HBP) in 15 plate appearances so far this season. According to SABR (since 1980) only Barry Bonds (1995) and Roberto Perez (2016) had similar starts to a season after each totaling eight walks before their first hit.

ALUMNI REPORT: Corey Ray (2017) hit a 2-run, walk-off home run last night at the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3-2 in Biloxi last night. Ray went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two walks last night for the Shuckers. Clint Coulter (2018) also hit a home run and was 1-for-4 with two runs.
