WINSTON-SALEM DASH (17-17, 47-56) vs. POTOMAC NATIONALS (16-15, 54-46)

RHP J.B. Wendelken (5-8, 5.12 ERA) vs. LHP Matthew Spann (7-4, 3.96 ERA)

7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, N.C.) Game #104 (Home Game #53)

SEVEN-RUN FIFTH CARRIES WINSTON The Dash and Potomac Nationals were even until Winston-Salem stormed ahead with seven runs in the fifth inning of a 9-4 decision on Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. In that deciding fifth frame, both Courtney Hawkins and Nick Basto went yard, with Basto's three-run bomb punctuating the huge outburst. The fifth inning supported starter Tyler Danish, who logged his fourth quality start and third victory with six strong frames of work (1 R/1 ER/6 H). Thus, the Dash have a chance to earn their third sweep of the season and second in the Triad.

POUNDING THE P-NATS Since the start of the 2012 season, the Dash have dominated Potomac at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem boasts a 23-6 mark (.793) in home contests against the P-Nats. The Dash are on the precipice of their fifth home sweep against the Nationals during this span. This year, the Dash have claimed six of the first nine matchups in the Triad, with Thursday being the final game between the two at BB&T Ballpark in 2014. In the Dash era (2009-present), Winston owns a better record against the P-Nats than any other active CL club (69-47, .595).

BREAK PAST THE BREAK-EVEN MARK For the third time this season, the Dash's home record is at the .500 mark, but Winston-Salem has not yet possessed a winning record at BB&T Ballpark this season. The Dash were also 2-2 on April 6 and 18-18 on June 21. Entering this season, the Dash owned the third-best home record among the 120 teams in full-season Minor League Baseball since 2010, when the downtown facility opened (171-110, .609).

ALONE IN SECOND With his fifth-inning homer Wednesday afternoon, Courtney Hawkins is now alone in second place in the Carolina League with 16. He trails only Joey Gallo (21), who has since moved up to Double-A. Hawkins also stands third in RBIs with 66, two shy of the top spot on the circuit.

DANISH DOWNS VOTH In Wednesday's prime pitchers' duel, Dash right-hander Tyler Danish emerged against P-Nats star Austin Voth. Danish matched a career-high with six innings of work, and he lowered his 2014 ERA to 2.27 between Low-A Kannapolis (seven starts) and Winston-Salem (11 starts). Danish is 15th among full-season qualifiers with that ERA, and he is the youngest hurler among the top 20. Voth had only surrendered one run in his first 33 innings in the Carolina League, but Winston tagged him for five runs in 4.2 frames.

BACK-TO-BACK BASTO Dash third baseman Nick Basto has gone yard in consecutive days for the first time in his Minor League career. He crushed a fourth-inning solo shot on Tuesday before capping Wednesday's deciding fifth with a three-run tater. Before this season, Basto had only mustered three total home runs. The Davie, Fla., native is riding a season high-tying seven-game hit streak, during which Basto is hitting .407 (11-for-27).

THERE'S THE GLOVE Winston-Salem has committed just one error over its last three games and three in the last five contests. Overall this season, the Dash have made 154 defensive miscues, which are second to Fort Wayne (Low-A, San Diego) in Minor League Baseball (169). Winston does pace the Minors in unearned runs with 123. The Dash have recorded at least one defensive blunder in 78 of their 103 games (76 percent).

DASH DOTS Dash starter J.B. Wendelken posted a 3.76 earned run average in the first half, but he has struggled since the All-Star break to the tune of a 9.49 ERA in five starts...In his first effort since his 10-day disabled list stint, Wendelken gave up four runs on eight hits in a loss at Frederick on Saturday...Winston-Salem is 21-7 overall and 15-1 at home when scoring six or more runs... The Dash will visit Wilmington for a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
