ASTROS COMPLETE SWEEP OF DASH

Thanks to a three-run sixth inning, Buies Creek pulled out a sweep-clinching, 5-2 victory over Winston-Salem on Thursday night at Jim Perry Stadium. With the game tied at two, right-hander Connor Walsh relieved Mike Morrison and started the sixth by loading the bases with walks to Osvaldo Duarte, Seth Beer and Bryan De La Cruz. Cody Bohanek followed by giving the Astros the lead for good with an RBI fielder's choice, plating Duarte to put Buies Creek up 3-2. Then, with Carlos Canelon batting, Walsh uncorked a wild pitch to allow Beer to score. Jonathan Arauz capped the scoring with a sacrifice to center. Thursday marked the second time the Dash have been swept this year.

DASHING AROUND THE LEAGUE

Despite suffering their first sweep since falling in three straight against Frederick from July 24-26, the Dash still rank first in the Carolina League in runs (608), slugging percentage (.416), hits (1,089), doubles (229), triples (40) and RBIs (570). On the mound, Winston ranks fourth in the circuit in ERA (3.61) and fourth in the league with 961 strikeouts.

CHASING HISTORY

With 19 games left in the regular season, Winston-Salem has an opportunity to clinch the best record in the Dash era (2009-present). The best mark in the franchise's history was set in 2012 when the Dash went 87-51-1. To surpass that mark, Winston will need to go 16-3 or better the rest of the way. The 2012 team included Yolmer Sanchez, Chris Bassitt and Marcus Semien.

HOLY PROSPECTS

Winston currently boasts nine of the top prospects in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline on its roster, including infielders Nick Madrigal (No. 4), Gavin Sheets (No. 15) and Laz Rivera (No. 28), outfielders Luis Robert (No. 3), Blake Rutherford (No. 7) and Luis Gonzalez (No. 14), and right-handers Alec Hansen (No. 10), Tyler Johnson (No. 23) and Lincoln Henzman (No. 30).

SIXTH-BEST IN THE MINORS

After sealing up a first-half Southern Division championship, Winston-Salem now has the sixth-best winning percentage in full-season Minor League Baseball with a .597 mark. Here's a look at the top teams:

1. Bowling Green Hot Rods (Midwest League - A): 78-44 (.639)

2. Lakewood BlueClaws (South Atlantic League - A): 77-44 (.636)

3. Corpus Christi Hooks (Texas League - AA): 75-46 (.620)

4. Memphis Redbirds (Pacific Coast League - AAA): 75-48 (.610)

5. Lehigh Valley IronPigs (International League - AAA): 74-49 (.602)

6. Winston-Salem Dash (Carolina League - A+): 71-48 (.597)

THE BIG GUY IS BACK

A former second-round pick out of Oklahoma, Hansen will be making his second start with the Dash this year. The right-hander led all of Minor League Baseball last season with 191 strikeouts. After missing the first two months of the season with forearm tightness in his right arm, Hansen made nine starts with Double-A Birmingham, where he went 0-4 with a 6.36 ERA.

LAST TRIP TO BB&T FOR WILMINGTON

Following their three-game set against the Astros, Winston-Salem now kicks off a four-game, three-day set against the Blue Rocks on Friday at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash are 5-5 against the Blue Rocks this season. The two clubs split a four-game set at the downtown facility from June 14-17 to cap off the first-half slate. Winston-Salem's 8-2 win on June 14, coupled with a Buies Creek loss that night, clinched the Dash a first-half title.

DASH DOTS

The Blue Rocks are currently 2.5 games back of Lynchburg for the top spot in the Northern Division in the second half.
