Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash scored three runs in the eighth inning to come back and knock off the Potomac Nationals 5-4 in front of 6,685 on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Entering the eighth inning trailing 4-2, things were starting to look bleak for the Dash (19-21) when reliever Colin Bates retired the first two quickly. With two outs however, Winston-Salem rallied, starting with a walk issued to Chris Curley. Curley took second on a wild pitch, and Kevan Smith then singled him in and Bates was replaced by Derek Self (2-2).
Smith then stole his first base of the season before Jeremy Farrell drove him home with an RBI double. Farrell's double tied the game, and then Mark Haddow gave the Dash the lead on a run-producing single which Michael Taylor overran, allowing Haddow to get all the way to third. Although Haddow was stranded, the three-run frame would be all Winston needed.
Terance Marin (3-2) gave up a one-out double to Taylor in the ninth but he never got any further, as Marin finished off the last two hitters to close the door on the Potomac (22-19) threat.
Righty Ryan Buch started on the mound for the Dash, making his first appearance of the season here in Winston after starting the year in Double-A. Buch was solid through the first few innings but the Nationals got to him for two in the fourth and one in the fifth, ending his evening.
On the other side Blake Schwartz gave up just one earned run in six innings, marking his second consecutive quality start against Winston-Salem. The lone runs he gave up came in his final inning of work. Curley drove in a run with a single to get the Dash on the board and an error extended the frame for Farrell, who took advantage and singled in a run of his own.
The Dash continue their three-game set with the Nationals Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. Righty Bryan Blough (2-4, 5.82 ERA) will be on the mound for Winston-Salem, while Potomac will counter with southpaw, Robbie Ray (3-2, 2.36 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:45 with the Pregame Dash and first pitch is set for 7. Saturday's game will also be broadcast live in the Winston-Salem area on My48.
