
Red Sox Rout Keys, 10-2

SALEM, VA - The Keys swept the Salem Red Sox in the opening series of the 2013 season. On Friday night, the Red Sox returned the favor defeating the Keys by eight runs. Salem exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third en route to the series opening victory. Branden Webb finished the night 2-for-4 with a RBI double and Jesse Beal was superb out of the bullpen for the Keys.
The Red Sox struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Garin Cecchini. The Keys tied the game up at one in the top of the second inning. Facing RHP Kyle Stroup, C Allan de San Miguel reached on an infield single with one out in the frame. After de San Miguel advanced to second on a wild pitch, Brenden Webb doubled to right field to bring home de San Miguel and tie the game at one.
Salem regained the lead in bottom of the second on a Matty Johnson RBI single. The Red Sox plated five runs in the bottom of the third to break open Friday night's game. Deven Marrero led off the inning with a double. Garin Cecchini followed with a RBI double. After a Keury De La Cruz single to center, Henry Ramos followed with a RBI double. Zach Petersime walked Carson Blair to load the bases. Matt Gedman made it 5-1 Salem with a sac fly to centerfield and Jose Garcia capped off the big inning with a two-run triple.
On the night, Petersime allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits while walking one over 2.1 innings pitched.
Jesse Beal relieved Petersime and retired the first 10 Red Sox he faced. In all, Beal retired 11 of 12 Salem hitters he faced in 3.2 innings of work.
The Red Sox finished up their big night at the plate with a Carson Blair three-run home run to left field. Blair's first homer of the season put Salem in front 10-1 in the seventh inning. The Red Sox finished the night with 15 hits.
Kyle Stroup (2-2) picked up the win for Salem while Zach Petersime (1-4) got the loss.
The Keys will look to bounce back on Saturday night in Salem. RHP Zach Davies (3-2, 4.43) will start for Frederick while the Red Sox will turn to RHP Mike McCarthy (2-2, 4.73). First pitch from LewisGale Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with coverage on 1450 AM set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Frederick Gorilla Pregame Show.
