Winning Streak Ends with Loss to Giants
October 12, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
The Moose Jaw Warriors' five-game winning streak ended Friday with a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Giants at Mosaic Place.
Moose Jaw picked up the game's first goal three and a half minutes into the first period when Brayden Tracey drove in on the right-wing and let a shot go from the circle.
David Tendeck made the save and then Owen Hardy knocked in the rebound for his third of the season.
The Warriors had penalty problems throughout the first period, giving the Giants three power-plays.
On the third man advantage and inside the final minute of the period, Tristen Nielsen burst across the Warriors right line and then cut inside where he finished the rush with a game-tying goal.
Space was limited for the Warriors in the second period as the Giants played them tight, they fought for 12 shots but were not able to add to their goal total.ÃÂ The Warriors' best chance came at 10:22 when Eric Alarie was given a penalty-shot but unfortunately, he was stopped by Tendeck.
Vancouver, on the other hand, was able to play solid defence inside their zone to takeaway potential second opportunities for the Warriors while capitalizing on their scoring chances.ÃÂ They picked up goals from Tristen Nielsen and Justin Sourdif to take a 3-1 lead.
In the third, the Giants added a goal from Lukas Svejkovsky seven minutes in to go up by three and then tightened up defensively which took away scoring chances for the Warriors.
Bailey Brkin made 26 saves in the loss while David Tendeck made 24 in the win and Tristen Nielsen had two goals and three points to lead the Giants.
Moose Jaw was 0-for-5 on the power-play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Warriors Thanksgiving weekend continues Saturday with a trip to Prince Albert to take on the defending WHL Champion Raiders.ÃÂ Catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the PreGame Show at 6:40pm.
