Winn Impresses, Riders Blanked in Opener against Hooks

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Despite Cole Winn's strong outing, the Frisco RoughRiders fell to the Corpus Christi Hooks 3-0 in the opener of the series from Whataburger Field on Tuesday evening.

Winn (2-3) took the loss for Frisco (21-15) even though he allowed just one run over his 6.1 innings while striking out five and walking two.

The game was scoreless until the seventh inning when Winn was replaced by Josh Advocate, who allowed a two-run home run to Hooks (17-19) catcher Korey Lee.

Corpus Christi added on in the bottom of the eighth with a Norel Gonzalez RBI single to make it 3-0 and the Riders were turned away in the top of the ninth. It was the first shutout loss for Frisco since May 13th, when the Hooks also handed the Riders a blanking.

In his Double-A debut, top Rangers prospect Josh Jung went 1-for-4 with a single.

Colin McKee (2-0) took home the win for the Hooks, throwing two innings in relief.

The RoughRiders continue their series with the Hooks on Wednesday, June 16th at 6:35 p.m. Frisco send RHP Hans Crouse (0-1, 3.46) to the mound against RHP J.P. France (3-2, 3.64).
