Wings Win, Beat Bismarck 4-3 SO

The Aberdeen Wings were on the road Thursday for the first of a three-game weekend. Currently the Wings are the 4th place team in the division taking on the Bismarck Bobcats the 3rd place team in the NAHL Central.

Again, in the first two minutes, there was a goal. The Bobcats scored in the first 20 seconds against the Wings back on February 7th, and again on February 13th. But Thursday night, the tally would come from the stick of Wings forward #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) with assists to #17 Will Hammer (F-St. Cloud, MN) and #10 Tanner Okeson (D-Roseau, MN). The Wings' 1-0 lead would hold up for just 5 minutes as the Bobcats' Batna would score on the power play tying the game 1-1. At the 8:29 mark, the Bobcats would tally another taking a 2-1 lead into the locker room.

In the 2nd period, the Wings would go on the penalty kill after a hooking call. Wings forward #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI) would get a short-handed goal thanks to assists from #2 Ryan Cook (D-Lancaster, NY) and #17 Will Hammer (F-St. Cloud, MN). The game tying goal would give the Wings an edge for the period. At the 9:13 mark, on the power play, Wings defenseman #2 Ryan Cook would tee up the slapshot from the blue line, deflected last second by Haak for the goal. The goal would be credited to #16 Kyle Haak, his 2nd goal of the night and 5th goal in last 3 games against NAHL Central opponents.

Much of the third period would feature offensive attacks from the Bobcats, though kicked to the side by Wings goaltender #30 Luke Kania (G-Chicago, IL). It was until the Bobcats pulled their goaltender for an extra skater, that the Wings' 3-2 lead would diminish. At the 19:28 mark, 32 seconds left in the game, the Bobcats would tie it up 3-3 with a goal through traffic from Tanner Salsberry.

In overtime, neither team would be able to gain any ground enough to find the net. So the 3-3 tie would go to a shootout.

Wings goaltender #30 Luke Kania would stop all 5 shots from the Bobcats, while Bismarck's goaltender Hunter Shepard would stop 4 of 5 Wings in the shootout. The lone shootout goal would come from Wings forward #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario).

The Wings return home on Friday and Saturday taking on the Brookings Blizzard inside the Odde Ice Center. General admission $10, reserved seating $12. Come be a part of the #1 Show in the NAHL and the largest crowds in the NAHL division. Saturday night will be the annual game-jersey auction in which Wings fans can bid on the white jerseys following the game.
